perf(vcs): a new machine's copy comes from a snapshot the host keeps On a 20,000-version project a tree's files sat across hundreds of R2 packs, and a whole-tree download read them six ranges at a time: vcs get took 21 s against git clone's 10 s. The host now keeps a recent tree's objects in one R2 object and sends that plus what changed since. It is remade once a download needs more than 64 reads past it, is only sent to someone who may read its tree, and is checked before use since a rollback can name one already deleted. vcs get on that project: 1.4-2 s. Also: VCS_TRACE=1 prints each host call with its time, and bench-live.sh races Rapid's server landing (refs/land) next to plain git and vcs. Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 <noreply@anthropic.com>
