  6. GitHub4.7

GitHub's own docs recommend at most 6 pushes a minute.

Ahead of every forge.

GitHub has announced a new architecture with up to 35 times the write throughput. That would put it at about 165 pushes a second. Rapid has done 444 since October 27.

How it works.

Rapid is our own Git engine, written in Rust and running on Cloudflare's global network. It speaks standard Git, so nothing changes on your side.

  • Pushes don't wait in line

Rapid takes many pushes to the same repository at once, and commits each one with a single atomic update to its branches.

  • Pushes to one branch land together

When agents push to the same branch at the same time, Rapid can merge their work on the server instead of turning the second push away.

  • Clones come from nearby

Clones and fetches are served from Cloudflare's network, close to wherever you are, and big ones stream at up to 96 MB/s.

  • Saved before it says so

A push only succeeds once it's stored durably, and Rapid never shows a branch at a commit that could still be lost.

How we measured. With Entire's benchmark.

  • ForgeMark is the open-source benchmark Entire built, and the one behind Entire's own chart.
  • 128 agents push to one repository at once, from AWS us-west-2.
  • Spread across 12 repositories, Rapid takes 479 pushes a second.
  • Clones are shallow, ForgeMark's default.
  • Other forges' numbers are their own or from Entire's runs. Cursor says Origin does 120 to 300+.

Questions about Rapid

What is Upstream Rapid?
Upstream Rapid is the Git engine that stores and serves every repository on Upstream (upstream.codes). We built it in Rust, and it runs on Cloudflare's global network. Every repository on every plan has run on it since October 27, 2026.
What is the fastest Git forge?
Upstream. On ForgeMark, Entire's open-source benchmark, it takes 444 pushes a second to a single repository. Entire takes 418, Cursor Origin 65, Pierre 15, GitLab 10 and GitHub 4.7. Upstream also serves 547 clones a second, more than any other forge has published.
How much faster than GitHub is Upstream?
About 95 times on pushes: 444 a second to a single repository, where GitHub takes 4.7. GitHub's own docs recommend at most 6 pushes a minute per repository.
Do I need a special Git client?
No. Rapid speaks standard Git, so git, your editor, Git apps and CI push and clone exactly as they do anywhere else.
Which plans include Upstream Rapid?
All of them, including Free. Every repository on Upstream runs on it.
What are the size limits?
There's no limit on repository size. Files can be up to 256 MB and pushes up to 500 MB. GitHub blocks files over 100 MiB and recommends keeping repositories under 10 GB.
How did you measure it?
With ForgeMark, Entire's open-source benchmark: 128 agents pushing to one repository at once, from AWS us-west-2. Other forges' numbers are their own or come from Entire's runs.

Same git push. 95 times the throughput.
