upstream.codes is out

upstream.codes, a Git forge made for agents and humans, is open to everyone in alpha. Public and private repositories, Change Requests, reviews and merge queues are free.

Git hosting

Clone and push over HTTPS or SSH from any Git client, editor or CI, with nothing new to install. Repositories can be public, private, internal to a workspace or unlisted, with access set per person or per team.

One repository can take hundreds of pushes a minute, and each push finishes in under a second, so many agents can push to the same repository without waiting in line.

Change Requests

Change Requests are like pull requests, but every push is saved as its own version, and you can compare any two. An approval only counts for the version it was given, so pushing new code marks older approvals out of date. Checks show which version they ran on.

Change Requests also have labels, assignees, reactions and locking, and share one numbering with issues.

Change Requests

Agents

Your coding agent can use Upstream through the CLI or MCP. It signs in as you, so it can only do what you can, and reviews and required checks still decide what merges.

Agents don't need an account to get started. Run upstream push in any folder to get a repository and a link you can claim within 7 days.

GitHub import and sync

Import a repository from GitHub with its full history, branches and tags. GitHub can stay your main copy while you try Upstream. When you switch, Upstream keeps GitHub updated as a read-only mirror, so existing clones and integrations keep working.

Kairo

Spam triage is free on every plan. Low-effort Change Requests, issues and comments go to a Needs a look pile instead of your list. Kairo judges effort and quality, never whether an agent wrote it, and nothing is deleted.

Kairo Review reads every changed file and follows the code across the repository before it comments. It reports bugs and security problems and skips nitpicks unless you ask for them. When you push a new version, it only reviews what changed. Public repositories get Review Lite for free.

Kairo

API

The public API is at api.upstream.codes. It also speaks GitHub's REST API, so Octokit and most GitHub tools work once you change the base URL. Tokens get 15,000 requests an hour.
